Evidence supporting the use of: Hemp
For the health condition: Bleeding (internal)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Hemp (Cannabis sativa) has a history of use in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), where its seeds (known as "huo ma ren") and other parts have been utilized for various conditions, including as a laxative and for promoting overall health. In some historical texts, preparations from hemp seeds or other plant parts have been referenced for their purported ability to "cool the blood" and stop bleeding, particularly in cases of internal bleeding such as blood in the stool or urine. However, these uses are based on traditional and anecdotal accounts rather than scientific studies. There is a lack of robust clinical evidence or modern pharmacological research directly supporting the efficacy or safety of hemp for treating internal bleeding. Most contemporary research on hemp focuses on its cannabinoids (such as CBD and THC) and their neurological, anti-inflammatory, or analgesic properties, not hemostatic (bleeding control) effects. Therefore, while there is some traditional precedent for using hemp in the context of bleeding, the evidence base is weak and not substantiated by modern science.
