Rating (out of 5): 1

Bengal Fig (Ficus benghalensis), also known as the banyan tree, is a plant with a long history of use in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda. In such traditional systems, various parts of the Bengal Fig, including its bark, leaves, and latex, have been employed to treat a variety of ailments. However, its use specifically for bladder infections (urinary tract infections) is primarily rooted in traditional practices rather than being supported by robust scientific evidence. Traditional healers have used decoctions or extracts from the bark and aerial roots as an astringent and for their purported antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which are believed to help with urinary tract issues, including bladder infections. Nevertheless, the number and quality of scientific studies examining the efficacy or mechanism of Bengal Fig in treating bladder infections are very limited. Most available research focuses on general antimicrobial or anti-inflammatory properties in vitro or in animal models, with little direct relevance to human urinary tract infections. Therefore, while the use of Bengal Fig for bladder infections is documented in some traditional medicinal texts, there is a lack of high-quality clinical evidence to support its effectiveness for this specific condition.
