Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Aloe polysaccharides, derived primarily from the inner gel of the Aloe vera plant, have a long history of use in traditional and folk medicine for a variety of ailments, including bladder and urinary tract issues. In traditional herbal practice, Aloe vera preparations were sometimes used to soothe mucosal linings and promote urinary tract health, likely due to their perceived anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. However, direct scientific evidence supporting the use of Aloe polysaccharides specifically for bladder infections (urinary tract infections, UTIs) is limited. Some laboratory studies have identified immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects of Aloe polysaccharides, and a few small-scale studies or case reports suggest potential benefits in interstitial cystitis (a chronic bladder condition), but robust clinical trials for acute bladder infections are lacking. There is also some evidence that Aloe extracts may help reduce irritation or inflammation in the urinary tract, but these effects have not been conclusively linked to the prevention or treatment of infection. Overall, the use of Aloe polysaccharides for bladder infection remains primarily rooted in traditional use, with insufficient scientific validation to support routine or primary use for this condition.
