Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is used to support the bladder body system, primarily based on scientific evidence. DMSO is an organosulfur compound with notable anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Its most well-established clinical use related to the bladder is in the treatment of interstitial cystitis (IC), a chronic condition characterized by bladder pain and urinary frequency. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a 50% DMSO solution (known as RIMSO-50) for intravesical (bladder) instillation in patients with interstitial cystitis. Multiple clinical studies have reported symptom improvement, including reductions in pain, urgency, and frequency, following DMSO bladder instillation. The mechanism by which DMSO acts is not fully understood, but it is believed to reduce inflammation, muscle spasm, and possibly disrupt the cycle of pain in the bladder wall.

Despite this, DMSO is not a cure for all bladder issues and is not generally recommended for other urological conditions outside of interstitial cystitis. Adverse effects, such as garlic-like breath odor and bladder irritation, can occur. Nonetheless, the use of DMSO for interstitial cystitis is an example of a bladder-supporting intervention with scientific validation and regulatory approval, supported by moderate to strong clinical evidence.
