White Nettle (Lamium album) has a history of use in traditional herbal medicine for a range of ailments, including backache. Most references to its application for back pain come from European folk medicine, where the plant was sometimes used as a general anti-inflammatory or mild pain reliever. The aerial parts and flowers were often made into teas or poultices applied directly to sore areas. However, there is very limited documentation even in traditional herbal literature specifically linking White Nettle to backache, and it is much more commonly cited for uses such as treating respiratory and urinary tract issues, as well as for its mild astringent and anti-inflammatory effects more generally.

From a scientific perspective, there are no robust clinical studies or pharmacological investigations that directly support the efficacy of White Nettle for treating backache. Its traditional use for pain or inflammation may be loosely justified by the presence of certain flavonoids and phenolic compounds with mild anti-inflammatory properties, but this evidence is indirect and not specific to back pain. Therefore, while its use is primarily rooted in tradition, the level of supporting evidence is weak.
