Quercetin is a plant flavonoid found in many fruits, vegetables, and grains. Its potential benefits for the arteries and cardiovascular system have been investigated in both animal and human studies. Research suggests that quercetin has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and vasodilatory properties, which may help protect the endothelium (the inner lining of the arteries) and support healthy blood vessel function. Some randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses have shown that quercetin supplementation can modestly reduce blood pressure in people with hypertension, and animal studies indicate it may help prevent the development of atherosclerosis by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation within arterial walls. However, while these findings are promising, the overall strength of evidence is moderate due to variability in study designs, dosages, and populations. The direct impact of quercetin on arterial health in healthy humans over the long term remains less clear. Nonetheless, the use of quercetin to support arterial health is scientifically grounded, with supportive mechanistic, animal, and some human data, though larger and longer-term clinical trials are needed for stronger recommendations.
