Phenolic acids, a class of polyphenolic compounds found in a variety of plant-based foods (such as coffee, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains), have been studied for their potential cardiovascular benefits, including support of the arteries. Scientific evidence suggests that phenolic acids—such as caffeic acid, ferulic acid, and chlorogenic acid—possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may help protect the vascular endothelium (the inner lining of arteries) from oxidative stress and inflammation, both of which are implicated in atherosclerosis and arterial dysfunction.

Several in vitro and animal studies have demonstrated that phenolic acids can reduce blood pressure, inhibit LDL cholesterol oxidation, and improve endothelial function. For example, chlorogenic acid has been shown to lower blood pressure in hypertensive rats and in small-scale human trials. Ferulic acid has been found to reduce markers of vascular inflammation and improve arterial elasticity in preclinical studies. Human epidemiological research also associates higher dietary intake of phenolic acids with a reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases.

However, most of the evidence is derived from laboratory and animal models, with fewer large-scale, randomized controlled trials in humans directly linking phenolic acid supplementation to improved arterial health. While the data are promising, more robust clinical research is needed to fully validate these effects in people. Overall, phenolic acids are considered scientifically supported for arterial health, but the strength of the evidence is moderate rather than conclusive.
