Rating (out of 5): 2

Jujubosides are saponin compounds extracted from the seeds of Ziziphus jujuba (commonly known as jujube or suanzaoren in traditional Chinese medicine). The use of jujubosides to support or treat anxiety disorders is primarily based on longstanding traditional use rather than robust scientific validation. In traditional Chinese medicine, jujube seed extracts are employed as a sedative and anxiolytic, commonly found in formulas aimed at calming the mind and improving sleep. This historical use underpins the rationale for their use in anxiety-related conditions.

Some preclinical studies in rodents suggest that jujubosides may have anxiolytic and sedative effects, potentially through modulation of GABAergic neurotransmission and other central nervous system pathways. For example, animal studies have shown that jujubosides can reduce anxiety-like behavior and promote sleep in mice. However, these findings have not yet been substantiated by well-designed human clinical trials. There is a lack of high-quality, large-scale, randomized controlled trials examining the efficacy and safety of jujubosides for anxiety disorders in humans.

In summary, while jujubosides have a strong basis in traditional use for anxiety and related symptoms, scientific evidence supporting their effectiveness in humans is limited and preliminary. Therefore, their use is justified by tradition, with only modest support from animal studies and little confirmation in clinical research.
