Their use in supporting or treating anxiety is primarily justified by traditional herbal medicine practices rather than robust scientific validation. Historically, plants rich in phenylpropanoids—such as cloves, cinnamon, and anise—have been used in various cultures for their calming and anxiolytic effects. These traditional uses are often attributed to the aromatic properties and mild sedative effects noted in folk medicine.
