Jujubosides are saponin compounds extracted from the seeds of Ziziphus jujuba (jujube), a plant with a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine for conditions such as insomnia and anxiety. Modern pharmacological research has begun to investigate jujubosides for their potential anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) effects. Preclinical studies, primarily in rodent models, indicate that jujubosides may exert anxiolytic and sedative effects via modulation of neurotransmitter systems, particularly by enhancing GABAergic transmission and influencing serotonin receptors. For example, studies have shown that administration of jujuboside A can reduce anxiety-like behavior in mice, likely through upregulation of GABA_A receptor activity and alteration of central nervous system signaling pathways.

However, the evidence is largely limited to animal studies and in vitro experiments. There is a lack of well-conducted human clinical trials directly assessing the efficacy and safety of jujubosides for anxiety. Thus, while there is some scientific basis for the anxiolytic use of jujubosides, the overall quality and quantity of evidence is low, preventing strong conclusions about its effectiveness in humans. The use is therefore rated as "scientific" with a low evidence score, reflecting preliminary but incomplete scientific support.
