Vitamin E (natural tocopherols) has some scientific evidence supporting its use in certain forms of anemia, though the evidence is limited and generally not robust. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that helps protect cell membranes from oxidative damage. In the context of anemia, its use has been studied primarily in rare hereditary or acquired hemolytic anemias, such as those caused by vitamin E deficiency in premature infants, or in conditions like thalassemia and sickle cell anemia where oxidative stress contributes to red blood cell destruction.

A few small clinical studies and case reports have suggested that vitamin E supplementation can reduce the rate of hemolysis and improve anemia in patients with chronic hemolytic disorders. For example, some research has shown that vitamin E supplementation in children with thalassemia or sickle cell anemia can modestly decrease markers of oxidative damage and improve red blood cell survival. However, the benefit appears to be modest, and vitamin E is not considered a primary treatment for anemia in the general population or for iron-deficiency anemia.
