Their use is primarily based on the belief that quail eggs are highly nutritious, containing essential vitamins and minerals, particularly iron, which is critical in the production of hemoglobin. However, while quail eggs do contain some iron, their iron content (approximately 3.65 mg per 100 grams) is comparable to or slightly higher than that of chicken eggs, but still not considered a rich source compared to red meat or legumes. Traditional practices involve consuming raw or lightly cooked quail eggs as a tonic to improve overall vitality and blood health, with anecdotal reports suggesting benefits for symptoms of anemia.
From a scientific perspective, there is limited clinical research specifically supporting the efficacy of quail eggs in treating anemia.
