Morus, commonly known as mulberry, has a long history of use in traditional medicine across various cultures, notably in Asia. In traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, different parts of the mulberry plant (including the fruit and leaves) have been used to "nourish the blood" and treat symptoms consistent with anemia, such as fatigue and pallor. The rationale is often based on the rich content of vitamins and minerals in mulberries, including iron, vitamin C, and folate, all of which are important for hematopoiesis (blood formation). Some texts describe mulberry consumption as beneficial for improving blood quality and circulation.

However, scientific evidence supporting the use of Morus for anemia is limited. While mulberries do contain small amounts of iron, the quantity is generally not sufficient to treat clinical iron-deficiency anemia. Some animal studies have suggested that mulberry extracts may have positive effects on certain blood parameters, potentially attributed to antioxidant effects or minor nutrient content, but robust human trials are lacking. There is no strong clinical evidence to support its use as a primary or adjunctive therapy for anemia.
