Vitamin E, primarily in the form of alpha-tocopherol, has been investigated for its potential role in supporting or treating Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) due to its antioxidant properties. However, you mentioned "Alpha-Tocomonoenol," which is a less common variant; the vast majority of research is on alpha-tocopherol or tocotrienols. The rationale is that oxidative stress is implicated in the pathogenesis of AD, and Vitamin E may help counteract neuronal damage caused by free radicals. Several randomized controlled trials—most notably the 1997 Sano et al. study (NEJM, 1997)—have suggested that high-dose vitamin E (2000 IU/day) may modestly slow the progression of functional decline in patients with moderate AD. Later studies, such as the TEAM-AD VA Cooperative Randomized Trial (JAMA, 2014), found a similar modest benefit in delaying clinical progression, but did not show improvement in cognitive test scores. Importantly, high-dose vitamin E supplementation has raised safety concerns, particularly regarding increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke and all-cause mortality in some populations. There is currently no strong evidence supporting the use of "Alpha-Tocomonoenol" specifically for AD, and the benefit of vitamin E in general remains controversial. Clinical guidelines generally do not recommend vitamin E as standard therapy for AD, primarily due to inconsistent evidence and potential safety issues.
