Apigenin, a natural flavonoid found in various plants such as chamomile, parsley, and celery, has garnered scientific interest for its potential neuroprotective properties, including possible applications in Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Preclinical studies, primarily in vitro and in animal models, have demonstrated that apigenin may exert antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-amyloidogenic effects. For example, research has shown that apigenin can inhibit the aggregation of amyloid-beta peptides and reduce neuroinflammation—both key pathological features of AD (Li et al., 2017). Additionally, some studies suggest that apigenin might modulate signaling pathways related to neuronal survival and synaptic plasticity. However, while these findings are promising, there is a lack of high-quality clinical trials in humans to validate the efficacy and safety of apigenin for Alzheimer's Disease. As a result, the evidence supporting its use in AD remains preliminary and largely experimental. Apigenin is not a recognized or approved treatment for Alzheimer's, and more robust clinical research is needed to determine its therapeutic potential in humans.
