In traditional Peruvian herbal medicine, maca was valued as a tonic for enhancing endurance and helping the body adapt to stress, which overlaps conceptually with modern ideas about adrenal support. However, the specific claim that maca supports adrenal gland function is not strongly rooted in scientific evidence. Some preliminary studies and animal research suggest that maca may help regulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which controls stress responses, but direct evidence for effects on the adrenal glands themselves in humans is lacking. Most human studies focus on maca’s effects on mood, energy, and sexual health rather than direct adrenal support.
