Rosavins are a group of compounds found in Rhodiola rosea, an adaptogenic herb traditionally used in Russia, Scandinavia, and parts of Asia to help the body adapt to stress and improve energy, stamina, and mental capacity. The notion of "adrenal fatigue" is not recognized as a medical diagnosis in mainstream medicine, but it is a popular concept in alternative health circles, where chronic stress is believed to "fatigue" the adrenal glands. Rhodiola and its rosavins have been used traditionally to combat fatigue, stress, and burnout—conditions often linked to the idea of adrenal fatigue.
There is some scientific research suggesting Rhodiola rosea can reduce fatigue and improve stress response, but these studies do not specifically address "adrenal fatigue" as a clinical entity. Nevertheless, a few clinical trials have shown that standardized extracts containing rosavins may reduce feelings of exhaustion and improve mental performance in stressful situations.1,2 The evidence is moderate and generally supportive of stress adaptation, but not directly for "adrenal fatigue" as a defined medical condition. Thus, the justification for using rosavins for "adrenal fatigue" is primarily traditional, with some scientific basis for general fatigue and stress adaptation.
