Evidence supporting the use of: Cynanchum wilfordii
For the body system: Adrenal Cortex
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Cynanchum wilfordii is a perennial plant used in traditional East Asian medicine, particularly in Korea and China. Its traditional applications are mostly associated with supporting general vitality, enhancing longevity, and treating ailments such as fatigue, dizziness, and menopausal symptoms. There is, however, no clear historical documentation specifically tying Cynanchum wilfordii to direct support of the adrenal cortex or adrenal function. In traditional medicine, herbs are often used to bolster "kidney" or "qi" energy, which is sometimes loosely associated with what modern practitioners interpret as adrenal support, but this is not a direct correlation. Modern scientific evidence examining Cynanchum wilfordii's effects on the adrenal cortex is lacking. Most published research focuses on its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and potential lipid-lowering properties. As of now, there are no well-designed clinical studies or robust pharmacological data supporting its use for adrenal health or adrenal cortex function. Therefore, its use for this particular body system is based more on extrapolation from broad traditional uses rather than specific historical precedent or scientific validation.
