Umckalin is a coumarin compound found in the roots of Pelargonium sidoides, a plant traditionally used in South African herbal medicine. While Pelargonium sidoides extracts (not specifically Umckalin) have a history of use for respiratory tract infections, sore throats, and related ailments, there is no robust scientific evidence or clinical trial data to specifically support the use of Umckalin or Pelargonium extracts in the treatment or support of adenitis (inflammation of lymph nodes). The traditional use of the plant does include addressing infections that could cause lymphadenopathy; however, direct evidence for Umckalin’s effectiveness in adenitis is lacking. Most clinical studies focus on extracts as a whole (such as EPs 7630) for bronchitis and other respiratory illnesses, not for lymph node inflammation. Therefore, the use of Umckalin for adenitis is based on traditional applications of the parent plant for infectious and inflammatory conditions rather than targeted, substantiated data for adenitis itself.
