For the health condition: Addictions (general remedies for)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Albizia julibrissin, commonly known as Mimosa or Silk Tree, has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for supporting emotional well-being, calming the spirit, and treating conditions such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia. In the context of addiction, Albizia is sometimes used in TCM to address symptoms associated with withdrawal and emotional distress, rather than directly treating the addiction itself. Its traditional use is primarily as a "Shen tonic," believed to stabilize mood and alleviate symptoms like irritability and insomnia that may accompany addiction recovery. Scientifically, there is limited research specifically investigating Albizia's efficacy in treating addiction; most studies have focused on its anxiolytic (anti-anxiety), antidepressant, and neuroprotective effects in animal models. The evidence for its use in addiction is therefore indirect and based mainly on its traditional role in supporting mood and emotional balance, which may help individuals cope with the psychological aspects of withdrawal. No robust clinical trials have been conducted to directly evaluate Albizia’s effectiveness for addiction treatment in humans. Thus, while Albizia is traditionally used as an adjunctive remedy for emotional symptoms during addiction recovery, scientific validation for this application is lacking.
