Delta-tocopherol is one of the eight forms of vitamin E, specifically a member of the tocopherol subclass, which also includes alpha-, beta-, and gamma-tocopherols. Among them, alpha-tocopherol is the most biologically active and commonly used in supplements, but delta-tocopherol is gaining recognition for its unique antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, particularly in cell membrane protection, lipid metabolism, and cancer research.
Structurally, delta-tocopherol contains fewer methyl groups on its chromanol ring than alpha- or gamma-tocopherol, which influences how it interacts with lipid radicals and enzymes. As a result, delta-tocopherol may:

Delta-tocopherol, as an isolated compound, does not have a historical use in traditional herbal or folk medicine, as vitamin E was not identified until the 1920s, and its individual forms (like delta-tocopherol) were separated and studied decades later.
