Evidence supporting the use of: Miroestrol
For the body system: Uterus
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Miroestrol is a phytoestrogen compound found primarily in the tuberous root of Pueraria mirifica, a plant native to Thailand and surrounding regions. Its traditional use is rooted in Thai folk medicine, where extracts from Pueraria mirifica have been consumed by women to alleviate menopausal symptoms and support reproductive health, including the uterus. The rationale is based on the plant's estrogen-like activity, as Miroestrol can mimic some effects of endogenous estrogen. However, robust scientific studies directly evaluating Miroestrol’s effect on uterine health in humans are limited. Most available evidence consists of in vitro and animal studies demonstrating estrogenic effects, such as uterine growth in rodents, but these findings cannot be directly extrapolated to clinical benefits or safety in humans. No large-scale, high-quality clinical trials have confirmed efficacy or safety regarding uterine support. Therefore, the use of Miroestrol for supporting the uterus is primarily justified by traditional use rather than scientific validation.
