Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) has a scientifically recognized role in nervous system function, as it is essential for the synthesis of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Deficiency in vitamin B6 can lead to neurological symptoms, including muscle twitching, irritability, and even convulsions in severe cases. This connection provides a biological rationale for the use of vitamin B6 to address muscle twitching, especially when deficiency is suspected or confirmed.
However, while the link between vitamin B6 deficiency and neurological symptoms is well established, robust clinical evidence supporting the use of vitamin B6 supplementation to treat muscle twitching in non-deficient individuals is limited. Most studies and case reports focus on resolving symptoms in those with proven deficiency, rather than as a general intervention for twitching of unknown cause.
