Fish roe oil is used to support the reduction of high triglyceride levels, and this use is supported by scientific evidence. Fish roe oil, like fish body oil, is rich in omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids—primarily eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Multiple clinical studies and meta-analyses have shown that omega-3 fatty acids can significantly reduce serum triglyceride concentrations in individuals with hypertriglyceridemia. The mechanism involves decreased hepatic production of very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and increased clearance of triglyceride-rich particles. While most research has focused on fish oil derived from the flesh of fish, fish roe oil contains similar, and sometimes higher, concentrations of EPA and DHA. Some studies indicate that fish roe oil may also contain additional phospholipids and bioactive peptides, which might have supplementary lipid-lowering effects, though this is less well-established than for standard fish oil. The American Heart Association and other major health organizations recognize omega-3 fatty acids as effective for lowering triglycerides, though they typically refer to purified EPA/DHA preparations. Overall, while direct large-scale trials with fish roe oil are more limited compared to fish body oil, the presence of high EPA and DHA content in roe oil provides a scientific rationale for its use in supporting healthy triglyceride levels, and emerging data supports its efficacy in this context.
