Collagen is a structural protein that constitutes a significant portion of bone matrix, providing tensile strength and flexibility to bones. Scientific research supports the use of collagen (from various sources) for skeletal system support, particularly in the context of bone health. Several studies have demonstrated that oral collagen supplementation can improve bone mineral density and support bone metabolism, especially in populations at risk of osteoporosis, such as postmenopausal women. Hydrolyzed collagen peptides appear to stimulate osteoblast activity (bone-forming cells) and may enhance the synthesis of bone matrix proteins, contributing to increased bone strength and reduced bone loss. Randomized controlled trials have shown positive effects of collagen peptides on bone markers and density over periods of 12 months or longer. However, the strength of evidence varies depending on the source and formulation of collagen, and more large-scale, long-term studies are needed. Nonetheless, the existing body of evidence justifies the use of collagen as a supportive supplement for bone health, and its role in skeletal system maintenance is well-acknowledged in the scientific literature.
