Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Schizandrol A is a bioactive lignan compound found in the fruit of Schisandra chinensis, a plant widely used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Traditionally, Schisandra berries have been employed to enhance vision, hearing, and other sensory functions, as well as to promote general vitality and adaptogenic effects. The use of Schizandrol A specifically to support the Senses body system (such as vision, hearing, taste, smell, and touch) is rooted in these traditional applications, where Schisandra is believed to "calm the spirit" and "sharpen the senses."
However, scientific research supporting Schizandrol A's direct effect on sensory systems in humans is limited. Most modern studies focus on its potential neuroprotective, anti-fatigue, and cognitive-enhancing effects, often observed in animal models. There is a paucity of high-quality clinical evidence directly linking Schizandrol A to improvements in sensory function in humans. Thus, the justification for using this ingredient to support the Senses body system is primarily based on traditional use, with limited scientific validation to date.
