Ginkgetin is a biflavonoid compound isolated from Ginkgo biloba and other plant sources. There is some emerging preclinical scientific evidence suggesting potential benefits of ginkgetin in the management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In particular, several in vitro and animal studies have demonstrated that ginkgetin possesses anti-inflammatory properties, such as inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g., TNF-α, IL-1β) and downregulation of NF-κB signaling pathways, which are key contributors to the pathogenesis of RA. Additionally, studies using collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mouse models, a common experimental model for RA, have shown that ginkgetin administration can reduce joint swelling and ameliorate histopathological signs of inflammation.

Despite these promising results, there is currently no robust clinical evidence (i.e., human trials) demonstrating efficacy or safety of ginkgetin for RA patients. The available data are limited to preclinical research, and the translation to human disease remains unproven. Therefore, while the use of ginkgetin for RA is not based on traditional medicine practices, there is some scientific rationale supported by early-stage studies. More research, especially well-designed clinical trials, is necessary to determine whether ginkgetin could be a viable therapeutic agent for rheumatoid arthritis.
