Synopsis
Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 4
Fat, specifically dietary fat, is scientifically recognized as essential for ovarian health and function. The ovaries are part of the endocrine system, and many hormones, including estrogen and progesterone, are synthesized from cholesterol, a type of fat. Adequate dietary fat is necessary for the production and regulation of these hormones, which are critical for normal menstrual cycles, ovulation, and fertility. Multiple studies have shown that extremely low-fat diets can disrupt menstrual cycles and even cause amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) due to insufficient hormone production. Furthermore, certain fats, such as omega-3 and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, play roles in reducing inflammation and supporting cellular structure in ovarian tissue. Clinical research has also demonstrated that women who consume balanced amounts of healthy fats tend to have better reproductive health outcomes compared to those with very low fat intake.
While not all types of fat are equally beneficial (e.g., trans fats may have negative effects), the broader category of dietary fat is well-established as necessary for ovarian and reproductive health. This connection is based on physiological mechanisms and has been supported by nutritional and medical studies, making the use of fat to support the ovaries scientifically justified.
