8-Prenylnaringenin is a phytoestrogen found primarily in hops (Humulus lupulus). It is one of the most potent plant-derived estrogens known. The interest in using 8-prenylnaringenin to support the ovaries and related body systems, such as in alleviating menopausal symptoms, is based on its ability to bind to estrogen receptors and exert estrogenic effects. Several in vitro and animal studies have demonstrated its affinity for estrogen receptors and its capacity to induce estrogen-dependent responses. Some small-scale human studies and clinical observations suggest that 8-prenylnaringenin may help with menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, which are linked to declining ovarian function.

However, large-scale, rigorous human clinical trials specifically examining its direct impact on ovarian health are lacking. Most research focuses on its estrogenic effects rather than direct ovarian support. Consequently, while there is some scientific evidence supporting its use for symptoms related to ovarian hormone decline (e.g., menopause), the evidence base is not yet robust. 8-Prenylnaringenin is therefore used based on its scientifically validated estrogenic activity, but its specific role in supporting ovarian health is only moderately substantiated. More research is necessary to clarify its effects and safety profile for this specific application.
