Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Curculigo (most commonly Curculigo orchioides, also called "Kali Musli") is an herb used in traditional systems of medicine, particularly Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine. In these traditions, Curculigo is sometimes used as a rasayana (rejuvenative) and for improving vitality, and it is occasionally included in formulations aimed at supporting women's health, including during menopause. However, the primary support for its use in menopause comes from traditional rather than scientific sources. There are very few modern clinical studies directly evaluating Curculigo for menopausal symptoms. The available laboratory and animal studies have focused on its phytoestrogenic, adaptogenic, and antioxidant properties, which could theoretically provide some benefit in menopause by modulating hormone levels or reducing oxidative stress. Nevertheless, these data are preliminary and do not constitute robust clinical evidence. Thus, while Curculigo's use for menopause is grounded in traditional practice, scientific validation is minimal, and the overall quality and quantity of evidence supporting its use for this specific condition is low.
