Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Tea, whether black, green, or herbal, has a long history of traditional use for promoting general health, including purported support for the lymphatic system. In traditional medicine systems such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda, certain teas (notably green tea and herbal infusions like red clover or cleavers) have been used to "cleanse" or "detoxify" the body, a concept often associated with lymphatic health. However, the idea that tea specifically supports the lymphatic system is rooted more in these traditional beliefs than in robust scientific evidence. While tea contains antioxidants such as catechins and polyphenols, which have broad anti-inflammatory and health-promoting effects, direct scientific studies demonstrating a significant or targeted benefit of tea on lymphatic function are lacking. Most available research focuses on the cardiovascular, metabolic, or immune benefits of tea, rather than direct effects on lymph flow, lymph nodes, or lymphatic drainage. As such, the traditional use of tea for lymphatic support is not strongly corroborated by modern clinical research, and any benefit should be considered general rather than specific to the lymphatic system.
