Evidence supporting the use of: Sanicle
For the body system: Lymphatics
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Sanicle (Sanicula europaea) has a long history of traditional use in European herbal medicine, particularly for its supposed benefits to wound healing, blood purification, and support of the lymphatic system. Historically, sanicle was believed to "cleanse the blood" and "support the glands," which are references often associated with the lymphatic system in folk medicine. Herbalists used sanicle for treating ulcers, sores, and various inflammatory conditions, suggesting an indirect support to lymphatic health by addressing infections and inflammation. However, there is very little modern scientific research to validate these uses, and clinical studies specific to its effects on the lymphatic system are lacking. Most available evidence is anecdotal or drawn from historical texts rather than rigorous scientific evaluation. Thus, while sanicle’s reputation as a lymphatic support herb is rooted in tradition and supported by centuries of use in European herbalism, there is insufficient scientific evidence to strongly endorse its efficacy for this purpose.
