Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Mushrooms have a long history of use in traditional medicine systems, particularly in East Asia, for supporting overall health and immunity. Some traditional texts and herbal practices, such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), suggest that certain mushrooms like reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), maitake (Grifola frondosa), and shiitake (Lentinula edodes) can "support the flow of Qi" or help maintain a healthy immune and detoxification system, which is sometimes interpreted as supporting lymphatic health. However, direct references to mushrooms specifically supporting the lymphatic system are sparse or nonspecific in both traditional and modern literature. Most modern scientific studies focus on the immunomodulatory effects of mushroom polysaccharides, like beta-glucans, which stimulate immune cells, but do not directly investigate lymphatic function or drainage. Accordingly, while there is a traditional precedent for using mushrooms to support bodily systems that overlap with immune and lymphatic health, there is little direct evidence—either traditional or scientific—specifically linking mushrooms to targeted lymphatic support. Thus, the traditional use is general and not specifically focused on the lymphatic system, and scientific evidence is indirect at best.
