Gotu kola (Centella asiatica) has a long history of use in traditional medicine systems, particularly in Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), where it is considered beneficial for supporting lymphatic circulation and reducing swelling. In Ayurvedic practice, gotu kola is sometimes prescribed for conditions thought to involve "stagnation" in the body's fluid systems, including the lymphatics, and is believed to promote detoxification and healthy fluid movement. Historically, it has been used as a remedy for edema, chronic venous insufficiency, and wound healing, all of which may have indirect connections to lymphatic health.

However, scientific research directly examining gotu kola’s effects on the lymphatic system is limited. Most modern studies focus on its benefits for venous insufficiency, wound healing, and cognitive function, rather than lymphatic drainage or function specifically. Some animal studies suggest anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties, which could theoretically support lymphatic health by reducing inflammation and supporting tissue repair. Still, clinical trials specifically targeting the lymphatic system are lacking.

In summary, the use of gotu kola for lymphatic support is primarily justified by traditional use, with limited scientific investigation specific to this system. There is modest evidence for related benefits, but direct scientific validation for lymphatic support remains insufficient.
