Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Ledebouriella, commonly known as Fang Feng (防風), is a traditional herb in Chinese medicine primarily used for expelling wind and relieving pain. Its historical applications focus on conditions such as headaches, rheumatism, and the common cold, rather than hair care. Some traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulations containing Ledebouriella are used for overall health or to "nourish the blood and dispel wind," which, in TCM theory, may have indirect effects on hair health because hair loss can be associated with "wind" or "blood deficiency" syndromes. However, there is limited evidence that Ledebouriella is specifically or routinely used in classic or modern herbal texts for direct hair care or hair growth. Scientific research on Ledebouriella’s direct effects on hair, scalp health, or alopecia is lacking, and no clinical trials have investigated its efficacy for hair care in humans. Therefore, its association with hair care is based on very limited or indirect traditional use, and not on scientific validation or robust traditional precedent.
