Rating (out of 5): 2

Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is an essential water-soluble vitamin involved in energy metabolism and cellular function. Its relevance to hair health stems from its role in supporting the normal growth and maintenance of tissues, including hair, skin, and nails. Scientific validation for the use of riboflavin to support the hair body system is moderate and primarily centers on the prevention of deficiency states. Clinical evidence shows that riboflavin deficiency (ariboflavinosis) can result in symptoms such as hair loss, seborrheic dermatitis, and skin disorders. Supplementation can reverse such deficiency-related symptoms, thus supporting its use for individuals with inadequate intake or absorption. However, there is limited evidence that supplemental riboflavin enhances hair growth or quality in otherwise healthy individuals with sufficient dietary intake. Most studies focus on correction of deficiency rather than enhancement of hair health in the general population. In summary, while riboflavin is scientifically validated as necessary for normal hair maintenance and preventing deficiency-related hair loss, evidence for its use as a general hair health supplement is limited. Its inclusion in hair-support formulations is justified mainly for ensuring sufficiency rather than for promoting superior hair growth or quality.
