Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

China Rose (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) has a longstanding presence in traditional medicine systems, including Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine. Its flowers and leaves have been used for various purposes, such as promoting hair growth, treating wounds, and addressing infections. For fungal infections, the use of China Rose is primarily based on traditional practices. Historical texts and ethnobotanical surveys mention its application for skin diseases and ulcers, which may include fungal conditions. Some in vitro studies have indicated antifungal activity of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis extracts against certain fungi, such as Aspergillus and Candida species, but these findings are preliminary and not widely replicated or validated in clinical settings. No robust clinical trials or systematic reviews currently support its effectiveness for treating fungal infections in humans. Therefore, while the traditional use exists and there is weak laboratory evidence, the scientific validation is limited and the overall evidence quality is low.
