For the body system: Female Reproductive System
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Miroestrol is a phytoestrogenic compound found in Pueraria mirifica, a plant native to Thailand and other parts of Southeast Asia. Its use to support the female reproductive system is primarily rooted in traditional medicine. For centuries, Pueraria mirifica has been used in Thai folk medicine for “rejuvenation” in women, which is believed to include benefits such as relief from menopausal symptoms, increased vitality, and enhanced breast development. These traditional uses have led to its inclusion in various herbal supplements targeting female hormonal balance and reproductive health.
However, while miroestrol and related compounds such as deoxymiroestrol have demonstrated estrogenic activity in laboratory and animal studies, rigorous clinical evidence in humans is limited and often of low quality. Most scientific studies to date have been preclinical or involved small sample sizes, and results are not sufficient to conclusively validate the efficacy or safety of miroestrol for supporting the female reproductive system. As such, its use for this purpose remains primarily traditional, with only preliminary scientific support that warrants further research.
