Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora ct. 1,8-cineole) is traditionally used in aromatherapy to support the relief of bronchial congestion. Its use is rooted in folk medicine, particularly in Madagascar and parts of Europe, where inhalation or topical application of the essential oil is believed to help ease breathing, clear mucus, and support respiratory health. The main component, 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), is known for its expectorant and mucolytic effects and is also found in other essential oils such as eucalyptus. While these properties are scientifically validated for 1,8-cineole itself, there is a lack of direct clinical studies specifically examining the efficacy of ravintsara oil as a whole in treating bronchial congestion in humans. Most evidence supporting its use is anecdotal or based on traditional practice, with professional aromatherapists often recommending it for respiratory complaints.
