Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 2

Arginine silicate is a compound that combines L-arginine, an amino acid, with silicon. L-arginine is a precursor to nitric oxide, a molecule that helps dilate blood vessels and improve blood flow. Research has shown that arginine supplementation can increase nitric oxide production, which may improve vascular function. Some studies specifically on arginine silicate inositol (ASI) have demonstrated enhanced blood flow and endothelial function in healthy adults, as measured by flow-mediated dilation and other markers. For example, a 2015 double-blind, placebo-controlled study found that ASI supplementation increased plasma arginine and silicon levels and improved vascular markers.

However, direct evidence for improving cerebral (brain) circulation or cognitive function is limited. Most studies focus on systemic or peripheral blood flow, such as in muscles or general vasodilation. Only a handful of small clinical studies have examined cognitive or cerebral outcomes, with mixed or modest results. Therefore, while there is a plausible mechanism and some evidence that arginine silicate can support vascular function, the specific claim of improving circulation to the brain is not strongly substantiated by current research. More targeted studies are needed to confirm benefits for cerebral blood flow and cognition.
