Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Veronica, also known as speedwell, has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine, especially in Europe. Traditionally, various Veronica species have been employed for their diuretic properties, which are believed to support bladder and urinary tract health. Herbalists historically have used speedwell infusions to help with urinary complaints, mild bladder discomfort, and as a general "cleansing" agent for the urinary tract. Most references to Veronica's use for the bladder come from ethnobotanical sources and traditional herbal texts rather than modern clinical trials.

However, scientific validation for Veronica’s effectiveness in supporting bladder health is minimal. Few studies have specifically investigated its effects on the urinary system, and the existing research is limited to in vitro or animal studies exploring its anti-inflammatory or antimicrobial properties. There is not enough clinical evidence to substantiate its use for the bladder in modern medicine. Therefore, while the use of Veronica for bladder support is well documented in traditional practice, it is not strongly supported by current scientific research.
