Costus (Saussurea costus, also known as "kuth") has a long history of use in traditional medicine systems, particularly Ayurveda, Unani, and Traditional Chinese Medicine. It has been used for a variety of ailments, including urinary tract issues and bladder support. In Ayurveda, Costus is considered to possess diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties, which are believed to support urinary health and alleviate discomfort associated with bladder irritation. Its roots have been used in formulations aimed at promoting urine flow and helping manage conditions like urinary tract infections and bladder stones. However, the traditional evidence is largely based on empirical use and historical texts, rather than rigorous scientific investigation.

Scientific research on Costus is limited, especially with regard to its effects on the bladder specifically. Some studies have identified antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory compounds within Costus root, such as costunolide, which could theoretically support urinary tract health. However, these findings are preliminary and have not been directly translated into clinical evidence for bladder support. Thus, while Costus is traditionally used for bladder-related issues, scientific validation remains limited, and more research is needed to substantiate these traditional claims.
