Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Cherokee Rose (Rosa laevigata) has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), where its fruit—known as Jinyingzi—is utilized primarily to address issues of urinary incontinence, frequent urination, and to "restrain leakage" from the lower burner, which includes the bladder. TCM texts describe its astringent properties as beneficial for tonifying the kidneys and stabilizing the essence, functions closely tied to bladder control in TCM theory. The fruit is often included in herbal formulas for nocturnal emissions, enuresis, and urinary frequency. However, there is limited modern scientific research investigating its effects on the bladder or urinary system specifically. Most available evidence comes from traditional usage, pharmacopoeia entries, and a few animal or cell studies, which suggest antioxidant and mild anti-inflammatory properties but do not directly confirm efficacy for bladder health. Thus, while Cherokee Rose has traditional backing for its use in supporting the bladder system, robust clinical or scientific validation is lacking at this time.
