"Balsam" is a general term that can refer to several aromatic resins obtained from various plants, such as Balsam of Peru, Balsam of Tolu, or Canada balsam. In traditional herbal medicine, certain balsams have been used to support urinary tract health, including the bladder. For example, Balsam of Peru (Myroxylon balsamum) and similar resins were historically used in folk medicine as mild diuretics and urinary antiseptics, believed to assist with bladder infections or irritation. The rationale was based on their aromatic and antimicrobial properties, which practitioners hoped would aid in cleansing the urinary tract. However, these traditional uses are not widely supported by modern clinical research, and balsams are not a standard therapy in urology today.

Most current pharmacological literature does not validate the efficacy or safety of balsam preparations for bladder health. Furthermore, balsams can be allergenic and may cause adverse reactions, particularly in sensitive individuals. In summary, while there is a historical tradition of using certain balsams to support the bladder, this practice is not supported by robust scientific evidence, and their use for this purpose is now rare.
