Ascorbyl palmitate is a fat-soluble form of vitamin C, created by combining ascorbic acid with palmitic acid. The conventional water-soluble form of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) has been extensively studied for its role in supporting vascular (arterial) health, primarily due to its antioxidant properties and involvement in collagen synthesis, which is crucial for maintaining the structural integrity of blood vessels. Scientific studies have shown that vitamin C can help reduce endothelial dysfunction, lower blood pressure modestly, and decrease arterial stiffness in some populations. However, most of this evidence pertains to ascorbic acid, not specifically ascorbyl palmitate.
Ascorbyl palmitate is sometimes used in supplements as a more stable, fat-soluble alternative, with the idea that it may better integrate into cell membranes and protect lipid environments from oxidative damage. There is limited direct research on ascorbyl palmitate itself regarding arterial health in humans. Most of the supportive evidence is extrapolated from general vitamin C studies, with a few animal and in vitro studies suggesting antioxidant benefits. Therefore, while the use of vitamin C for arterial support has some scientific backing, the evidence specific to ascorbyl palmitate is less robust. Overall, its use is scientifically plausible but not as well-validated as the standard form of vitamin C.
