Pterostilbene is a naturally occurring compound structurally similar to resveratrol, found in blueberries and some other plants. It has attracted scientific interest due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Several preclinical studies (mainly in animals and cell culture) suggest that pterostilbene may help support arterial health by reducing oxidative stress, lowering cholesterol, and improving endothelial function. For example, some studies have shown that pterostilbene can decrease LDL cholesterol and lipid peroxidation, both of which are relevant to arterial health. Additionally, animal studies indicate that pterostilbene may help prevent the development of atherosclerotic plaques.
However, direct evidence from human clinical trials is limited. A few small studies suggest some benefit for lowering blood pressure and improving lipid profiles, but the data are preliminary and not yet conclusive. There is not enough robust evidence to definitively state that pterostilbene supports arterial health in humans.
In summary, while there is some scientific rationale and promising preclinical data for the use of pterostilbene to support arterial health, current human evidence is limited and does not yet allow for strong conclusions. The evidence level is therefore rated as 2 out of 5.
