Matcha, a finely ground powder made from specially grown green tea leaves, has been the subject of research investigating its potential cardiovascular benefits, including support for artery health. The primary bioactive compounds in matcha are catechins, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which are known for their antioxidant properties. Scientific studies suggest that these catechins may help reduce oxidative stress and improve endothelial function, both of which are important for maintaining healthy arteries.

Several observational and interventional studies on green tea consumption (which applies to matcha as well, given its high concentration of catechins) have found associations with improved arterial health markers. For instance, some research indicates that regular green tea intake is linked to reduced LDL cholesterol levels and improved blood vessel flexibility, potentially lowering the risk of atherosclerosis. A 2020 review in the journal Nutrients noted that green tea catechins can modestly lower blood pressure and cholesterol, both of which are crucial for arterial health.

However, most of the evidence is based on general green tea rather than matcha specifically, and while the mechanistic rationale is strong, the clinical impact of matcha on human arteries requires further large-scale, long-term studies.
