Oleanolic acid is a naturally occurring triterpenoid compound found in various plants and herbs, and its use in supporting or treating Fatty Liver Disease (also known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, NAFLD) has been explored primarily through scientific research. Preclinical studies, particularly in cell and animal models, have shown that oleanolic acid exhibits hepatoprotective properties. It appears to reduce hepatic lipid accumulation, improve insulin sensitivity, and attenuate oxidative stress and inflammation in the liver—key factors involved in the pathogenesis of NAFLD. These effects are thought to be mediated through modulation of signaling pathways such as AMPK, SREBP-1c, and PPARα, which regulate lipid metabolism and inflammatory responses.

Some small-scale clinical studies and pilot trials have also been conducted, suggesting potential benefits for liver enzyme normalization and reduction in hepatic fat content.
