Argan nut oil, derived from the kernels of the Argania spinosa tree native to Morocco, is widely used in skin care for its purported anti-aging effects. The scientific basis for its use in aging prevention primarily stems from its rich content of vitamin E (tocopherols), unsaturated fatty acids (notably oleic and linoleic acids), squalene, and polyphenols, all of which have antioxidant and moisturizing properties. These compounds can help neutralize free radicals generated by UV radiation and environmental pollutants, which are major contributors to skin aging (photoaging).

Several in vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated that Argan oil can improve skin hydration and elasticity, and reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles. For example, a randomized controlled trial published in Clinical Interventions in Aging (2015) found that daily topical and dietary Argan oil use for 60 days led to significant increases in skin elasticity among postmenopausal women. Other studies show that Argan oil can enhance skin barrier function and reduce inflammation, which also supports its use in aging prevention.

While the evidence is promising, most studies are relatively small and short-term, and more robust clinical trials are needed to fully establish its efficacy. Nonetheless, the existing scientific data justify the use of Argan nut oil for supporting the prevention of skin aging, especially as part of a broader skin care regimen.
