Scabrous Gentian (Gentiana scabra) is a plant used in traditional East Asian medicine, particularly within Chinese and Japanese herbal practices. Its use for supporting or treating injuries is primarily justified by tradition, not modern scientific evidence. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Scabrous Gentian is known as "Long Dan Cao" and is commonly prescribed for conditions associated with "damp-heat" in the body, such as certain types of swelling, inflammation, or trauma. Historical texts and herbal compendia mention its use in topical or internal formulas intended to reduce swelling, alleviate pain, and promote the healing of injuries, especially those accompanied by heat or inflammation.

However, while there is a long-standing tradition supporting its use for injuries, there is very limited modern scientific research validating these specific claims. Most contemporary pharmacological studies on Gentiana scabra have focused on its anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, and antioxidant properties.
